Scout Network, the Royal Navy and Me

Okay I’m new to this blogging business and as I’m writing this I’m still not quite sure what I want to achieve by posting my first ever blog

so let’s start with who I am.

For 4 months at a time I’m Third Officer Craig James Harris of The Royal Fleet Auxiliary, where I’m an Officer of the Watch driving a 30000 tonne ship round the worlds oceans, I’m currently based in Bahrain where I’m helping support mine clearance operations within the Arabian Gulf.

When I’m home on leave I’m “cragley” an Explorer scout leader and proud member of 5not. I have been involved in scouting since a young age and consider myself to be a true “scouter”.

Being member of Network has given me many opportunities and experiences that would never of been available to me in the outside world. A few of the things iv done include, attend Kandajam in Switzerland, become a climbing instructor and have instructed at Gilwell Reunion and the Essex International Jamboree i have also visited and helped in scout groups not only all over the UK but also the world( I bet most of you never knew there is a scout group in Guantanamo Bay it’s a American naval base and not just a prison).

Back to 5not, we have a lot going on in the coming months in addition to the regular meetings, continuing work on the nights away permit, climbing, badminton , DofE training and the now infamous Christmas night out and Christmas camp, I’m also looking at organizing some Scuba diving in the new year too.

If any of you are interested in joint us or coming to say hi at any of our events, don’t believe the rumors, we ARE a friendly bunch and would love to meet you.

Comments

One of the features that make the Blog a potentially exciting format to use, is the ability of the readers to post their own comments on the entries…

I will point out – that it is not an excuse for anonymous name calling and abuse…  All comments will had to be approved by an administrator before they can be seen.  This will also reduce the amount of SPAM that usually end up in the comments of an unmoderated blog…

Please feel free to comment of the posts, but be nice :-)

Once you have a blogging account, you may want to put your posts into a Category – for Example ‘Fundraising’, ‘Events’, ‘Congratulations’ etc. making it easier for people to find related posts.  If no suitable category exists, contact me and I will create it for you :-)

If you know what an RSS feed is, and you want to subscribe to this blog with your favoured ‘Feed Reader’ simply go to http://www.westmerciascoutcounty.org.uk/Sections/Network/blog/feed/ If you don’t know what an RSS feed is, ah well – just remember to check back here often :-)
